Zachary "Zach" Kufahl, age 29, passed away unexpectedly January 8, 2026. Born on March 3, 1996, in Merrill to Susan K. Kufahl, Zach grew up with a pair of capable hands and a heart geared toward helping others.
A proud graduate of the Wisconsin Challenge Academy, Zach found his professional calling at Northcentral Technical College, where he earned his certificate in residential building and construction. As a carpenter with KSB Contractors in Mosinee, he didn't just build structures; he took pride in the accomplishments of a hard day’s work.
But Zach’s true masterpiece was his family. Nothing brought him more joy than being "Dad." Whether they were pitching a tent under the stars, hiking through the Wisconsin woods, or paddling down a quiet river, Zach was at his happiest with his boys and his daughter by his side. He was the first to show up when a family member needed a hand and the loudest to cheer when the Green Bay Packers took the field. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, outdoor adventure, and a deep, quiet devotion to those he loved.
Survivors include his four children, Layla, Matthew, Cody, and Colton; aunts and uncles, Betty Tewes, Robert (Stephanie) Tewes, Cindee Kufahl, Marilyn Hodgson, Melvin (Sharon) Kufahl Jr., and Chris Kufahl; and many cousins. Zach was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Kufahl; grandparents, Melvin Sr. and Fern Kufahl; and uncles, Michael Kufahl and James Hodgson.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
