Warren M. Schmidt

Warren M. Schmidt, born June 12, 1937, to Clarence and Erna (Oestreich) Schmidt and passed on to our Lord and Savior after a short courageous battle with cancer July, 2026.

Warren was confirmed in 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1955, he graduated from Merrill High School. He served active duty in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. Warren married Marlene Balschun in 1962.

He began work at Northern Door Manufacturing in Merrill from 1956 until 1982. In 1982, Warren and Marlene moved to Roseburg, Oregon where he took a position as plant manager at Garage Door Manufacturing. In 1987, they moved back to the area and Warren returned to Northern Door Manufacturing. He worked there until the company closed. In 1991, he began working with Powder Tech Inc and retired from there in 2000. Warren was the caretaker of WOODLODGE in the Town of Birch from 1997 until 2026.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene Schmidt; brother, Ken (Carla) Schmidt; sister, Marie McCarty; and many nieces and nephews. Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Erna Schmidt; his in-laws, Gus and Marie (Arseneau) Balschun; and Dale Fisher and Pat McCarty.

The memorial service for Warren will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 13, 2026, at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill, will provide military rites immediately after the service. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
