Walter “Wally” Bahlow, age 94, of Merrill, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, while under the care of Interim Health. He was born on September 6, 1931, to the late Benjamin and Theresa (Volz) Bahlow in the town of Scott. Wally attended the Immanuel Elementary School. He was drafted into the United States Marine Corp, and bravely served his country from 1951-1953, until his honorable discharge. Wally met the love of his life, his soul mate and best friend, Martha “Pat” Fox, and the two exchanged marriage vows on June 26, 1954 in the town of Harding, a loving union lasting 71 years. She survives.
Before serving in the military, Wally enjoyed logging in the woods and he worked at the beanery in Merrill. He worked at Northern Door in the maintenance department for over 30 years, and then worked at Lemke Machine for about 5 years, until his retirement. When he was younger, Wally enjoyed playing baseball, dartball and horseshoes, as well as bowling. He was always willing to help his friends, family and neighbors any chance he had – he was truly a “jack of all trades”. Wally had a true appreciation and passion for the outdoors and would look forward to making wood every year. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Men’s Club at church. Wally was a man of strong faith and was a devoted and faithful Christian. He is remembered as a strong, quiet man, that adored his family, especially his grandchildren. Wally will be missed by many, but never forgotten.
Wally leaves behind his wife: Martha “Pat” Bahlow, daughters: Patti (John) Hahn, Rae (James) Schmidt and Gina (Ray) Krause, son: Danny (Brenda Gustafson) Bahlow, 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren (with one on the way!). He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter: Erin Dettmering, brothers: Eddie and Roger and sister: Dorothy.
The funeral service for Wally will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Corning. Rev. Joel Danner will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the church. Burial at the church cemetery will immediately follow the service.
The service will be recorded for those unable to attend in person, and can be found under his obituary on the funeral home website.
