Mosinee

Thomas W. Pagel, 81, formerly of the town of Corning, passed away peacefully at his home in Mosinee on Saturday, March 21, 2026. He was born on March 29, 1944, and was the son to the late Leonard Pagel and Winifred (Berhow) Pagel. On February 21, 1968, he married Mardell Mootz at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill. Tom and Mardell had just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She survives.

Tom was a thoughtful and caring man. He had a love for old classic cars. He also had quite a witty sense of humor. Tom and Mardell enjoyed hosting many family reunions.

Tom started as a truck driver hauling mail for Madison Transit from 1965 to 1969. He was then an over the road truck driver until his retirement in 2002, he especially enjoyed hauling out to the east coast. Family members looked forward to their turn to ride along with him!

After retirement, he enjoyed working on old tractors and old cars in his garage with his friends. The garage was also a meeting place for family, friends and many of the neighbors, where they sat around, told stories and just shot the breeze. It was common to see 4 or 5 cars in the driveway at any given time. The garage refrigerator was always stocked with beer, pop and Heath candy bars.

He is survived by his wife: Mardell Pagel of Mosinee, brother: Gary Pagel of Wausau, brother-in-law: Virgil Voigt of Wausau and sister-in-law: Gay Mootz of Merrill. He is further survived by many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Judith Voigt, 2 brothers-in-law: Roger Mootz and Ronald Mootz Sr, and 2 nephews: Terry Voigt and Kip Voigt.

Per Tom’s request, no services will be held.
