Shawn Ardith Carlson

Jul 1, 1951 — Jun 12, 2026

Shawn Ardith Carlson, a 74-yr old Michigan-UP “Yooper”, passed away on June 12, 2026. She was the youngest daughter of Edward and Dolly (Johnson) Carlson.

She enjoyed activities with her daughters, roller skating, making pasties or cornflake cookies, and watching da-Bears. She was a proud Grandma, bonding over long walks, singing silly songs, grabbing lunch, and supporting developmental programs.

Shawn was committed to education, earning 2 Associates degrees (while working and raising her family). Her strong work ethic and attention to detail led to accounting positions including Arachnid (IL) and payroll positions including PGA (FL) - as a nice tie-in to her golf interest (beyond golfer Tom Watson crush!).

Shawn spent time snowmobiling, bowling, and reading books. Known for her sass and quick wit (“if you burn meal, just add water” or “I’d be terrible at Sales – can’t sell water in desert!”). Yet her tender heart showed through when someone needed an ear. Music was a constant, particularly her favorites: Neil Diamond, Cher, and Kenny Rogers (and yes Guns & Roses Welcome to the Jungle!).

She leaves two daughters, Tamara (son-in-law Robin) O'Dell and Kimberly Stanford, and three grandchildren, Ashley O'Dell, Amanda O'Dell, and Matthew Stanford; sisters, Gloria McMahon, Linda (Bill) Brantley, and Carole Moore; sister-in-law Janey Carlson; along with many nieces and nephews.

Shawn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arden and "Artie" Carlson, brothers-in-law Tom McMahon and Jerry Moore, as well as nephews Billy, Danny, and Jason, and niece Christine.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the Aspirus Hospice team’s amazing empathetic care and Sylvan Crossings compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
