Ronald W. Mootz Sr.

August 28, 1953 — September 10, 2025

Merrill

Ronald W. Mootz Sr., 72, of Merrill, passed away peacefully in his home on September 10, 2025.

He was born on August 28, 1953, to Walter and Alice (Kanitz) Mootz of Merrill, WI.

Anyone that knew Ron knew that hunting and running hound dogs was his passion, especially as a young man. Many a night were spent in a corn field chasing raccoons, and many summer and fall mornings were spent chasing bears. The friends he made hunting lasted a lifetime. In fact, just four days prior to passing Ron was able to make it to Saxon, WI for one last bear hunt.

Ron had two children, Kim (Landwehr) and Ronnie Mootz Jr. As a dad, one of his greatest joys was coaching minor and little league baseball. And of course, taking his kids hunting.

He retired from Greenheck Fan Co. Retirement was spent enjoying his fireplace, telling stories and jokes, and spending time with friends and family.

Ron is survived by his children, Kim (Ryan) Landwehr and Ronnie (Emilee) Mootz Jr, his sister Mardell (Thomas) Pagel, sister-in-law Gay Mootz, grandchildren Briah and Maci Landwehr, and fur-grandchildren, Maggie, Josie and Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Mootz.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 13th at Pagels Pub & Grub on Hwy L from 2pm-5pm.

Thank you to Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, and especially to his favorite RN Taylor, for helping us keep Dad independent and comfortable until his final days.
