Wausau

On May 17, 2026, Richard "Dick" Wayne Moyer, 79, Wausau, WI, passed away at home under the care of his wife of 60 years and with his daughters by his side.

Dick was born in Merrill, WI, on July 29, 1946, to the late Morris and Rosella (Koehler) Moyer. He grew up on the family farm near Council Grounds State Park. He attended Trinity Lutheran School through eighth grade and then graduated from Merrill High School in 1964. It was there that he met his future wife, Michele (Myers), whom he married on February 12, 1966. Together, they had three daughters, and Dick became a loved and well-versed girl dad, instilling in them their love of the outdoors.

Dick was one of the first ironworkers in Local 383 of Madison to become a journeyman by completing the apprenticeship program at North Central Technical College. He worked for 42 years in the trade, retiring as a superintendent for O.J. Boldt Company, Appleton, in 2008. Dick was a member of Local 383 for 57 years.

A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Merrill, Dick previously served on their Board of Trustees and Board of Education. He volunteered for the Trinity Food Pantry until recently. Dick also spent time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

Dick enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also found happiness in woodworking, crafting numerous pieces of furniture through the years. He built his own home in Merrill, doing everything from cutting trees to making the lumber to completing the finishing touches. He especially enjoyed traveling with Michele, visiting most of the 50 states as well as Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Dick is survived by his wife, Michele; their three daughters, Lynn (Vern) Von Ruden, Marshfield, Julie (Marc) Ertl, Amery, and Sheila (Todd) Olson, Chetek; grandsons Alex (Allison) Paulson, Merrill, Jack Ertl, Minneapolis, MN, and Ian Ertl, Tampa, FL; and great-grandsons James and Henry Paulson. He is further survived by four nieces, Brenda (Curt) Chase, Cheryl (Mike) Ott, Debra (Todd) Berndt, and Krystal Brock; two nephews, Dan (Melody) Hill, and Tim (Mary) Moyer; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Kufahl and Gloria Myers, and one brother-in-law, David Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jane Hill, brother, Arlan Moyer, father-in-law and mother-in law, Jerome and Louise (Michalski) Myers, and brother-in-law, Patrick Myers.

A Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 107 N State St, Merrill, WI 54452, on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 3:30 P.M. and will be livestreamed for those who are unable to join the family in person.
