Richard "Dick" T. Schmeltzer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Dick" T. Schmeltzer, who left us on June 29, 2026, at the age of 82. Born on December 7, 1943, to the late Otto and Catherine (Chartrand) Schmeltzer, in Melrose Park, IL. The family eventually moved to Merrill, WI, where Dick attended and graduated from Merrill High School with the class of 1961. He met Sharon Chartier, and the two were united in marriage on February 3, 1962, a loving union lasting over 64 years. She survives.

Dick was a dedicated worker and a loyal friend, known for his strong work ethic and his love for his family. Dick worked for numerous years at the Wausau Paper Mill, until his retirement.

During his younger years, both he and Sharon were involved with coaching Little League in Merrill for over 30 years. Dick loved sports, and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. He also coached all of his sons and grandchildren and continued to attend games after his coaching career. Family and friends will forever remember him for his kindness, sense of humor, and the lively spirit he brought to every gathering.

Dick leaves behind his beloved wife: Sharon, 6 children: Jeff (Shevon), Tim (Sandi), Todd (Theresa), Thomas, Chris (Tracy) and Mitchell, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and sister: Mary Lou Kramer. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 sisters.

In honor of Dick's life, a private family gathering will be held.

Rest in peace, Dick. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in all of us.
