Patrick Finucan

Patrick James Finucan, 75,of Merrill, passed away July 9, 2009 after a long illness at St. Clares Hospital in Weston under the care of Ministry Hospice. Pat was born in Merrill , Wisconsin on November 9, 1933 to Dr. James Michael Finucan (a Merrill optometrist) and Gertrude (O’Leary) Finucan. Pat was educated at St. Francis School in Merrill, St. Francis Minor Seminary in Milwaukee , University of Notre Dame in South Bend , Indiana and graduated with a BA and then a Law Degree from University of Wisconsin , Madison . He served his country as a United States Marine from 1956-1958.

Pat practiced law in Madison and Merrill. In later years, he was a voice for the poor, praying for justice, for friends and family and for spiritual renewal. He took great comfort in daily mass – and reading and studying about his Irish heritage.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his oldest son Shawn Patrick Finucan, and his sister Mary Janice Talbot. He is survived by two sons, Timothy (Kathy) Finucan, of Webster City, Iowa, and James (Jamie Lynn) Finucan of Merrill; and a daughter Deirdre (John) Worrell of Hudson, Wisconsin and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with mass at 11:00 AM at the Bell Tower Chapel, 1500 O’Day Street . The Rev. Dan Crosby will officiate. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery . Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul 1004 E, Main Street in Merrill or to the Merrill Food Pantry.
