Michael J. Akey, age 76, of Irma, WI, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Aspirus Wausau Hospital, with his family by his side. He was born on October 2, 1948 to the late Donald and Ruth Akey in Merrill. Michael attended and graduated from Merrill High School, before enlisting in the United States Army. He bravely served his country until his honorable discharge. While in the Army, Michael met Sun Cha Kim in Korea, and the two were united in marriage on January 18, 1971. She survives.
Michael had worked for Semling-Menke and Semco in Merrill as a machinist, until his retirement. Michael was an outdoorsman and would go hunting or fishing any chance he had. He also liked to do various woodworking projects and was very creative. Michael also enjoyed being home, and would relax and watch his favorite TV shows. He was an amazing husband and grandpa. He was very caring, loving, a joy to be around, but also had a witty sense of humor. Michael will be missed dearly, but memories of him will always be with his family and friends.
