Lois Ramias

March 7, 1951 — June 10, 2025

Mesa, AZ

Known for her kind and generous spirit, wry humor, and infectious chuckle, Lois Jane Ramias, née Oestreich, was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Lois passed away peacefully on June 10th, 2025, at her home in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 74. One of seven children, Lois was born in Merrill, Wisconsin on March 7th, 1951 to Otto and Margaret Oestreich.

After graduating from Merrill High School in 1968, Lois went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from the University of Wisconsin. Lois’s work in biomedical research led to roles at prestigious institutions including Northwestern Medical School, Abbott Laboratories, Arizona State University, and St. Joseph’s Medical Center. She coauthored a dozen published studies, presented at national science conferences, and earned numerous awards for her achievements.

Except for when her work led her to Playa Del Rey, California, Lois spent the majority of her adulthood living in the Phoenix metro area of Arizona. However, she was fiercely dedicated to her family and spent periods living in Wisconsin and Minnesota to assist during times of need. She also traveled the country and the world to be present at various milestone moments of her immediate and extended family.

Lois was committed to civic duty, participating in events advocating for environmental stewardship, supporting women’s mental health, and donating to disabled veterans' services. She was also a member of multiple United Methodist church communities over the years.

An accomplished seamstress, Lois put her sewing table to use crafting elaborate quilts, lovely homemade frocks, and themed curtains for her grandchildren’s nursery. Lois also enjoyed cooking, contributed delicious dishes to many family meals and holiday celebrations, and shared recipes her children continue to replicate to this day. She journaled regularly and exchanged extensive correspondence with loved ones, leaving a rich collection of personal writings in her elegant penmanship that offer a glimpse into the beautiful life she lived and the many lives she touched.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Margaret Oestreich, and her brothers, James/Ace and Edward Oestreich. She is survived by her children, Jason (Mai) Ramias, Chris (Sarah) Ramias, and Molly (Lex) McCoy; her grandchildren, Addison and Brynley; her siblings, Robert, Donald, Lylas, and Janice; and numerous extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2pm at Snow Hill Cemetery, followed immediately by a celebration of life at Merrill Town Hall.
