Leland I. Raasch

Leland I. Raasch, age 96, of Merrill, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill, WI, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. Leland was born on November 14, 1928 to the late Ben and Esther (Kriehn) Raasch in the town of Hamburg. He met the love of his life, Marilyn Hopperdietzel, while working at Fromm Brothers and was united in marriage on June 20, 1959, until she preceded him in death in 1983.

Leland built a life for his family on their beef and mink farm in the town of Schley. He enjoyed caring for the land and animals. Leland had also worked for Anson & Gilkey as an elevator operator and Semco in Merrill. He looked forward to spending time outdoors, especially when it came to hunting and fishing. Leland will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.

Leland is survived by his daughters: Bonney (Steve) Paul of Rockford, IL and Nancy Raasch of Appleton, WI and grandchildren: Nathan (Melika) Paul and Brittney (Nick) Hamberg. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Marilyn Raasch, daughter: Janet Raasch and siblings: Marcella (first husband, Roger Block & second husband, Ward) Johnson, Virginia (Clifford) Mootz and Ellsworth (Lena) Raasch.

The funeral service for Leland will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral Home, at 301 Eagle Drive, Merrill, WI. Rev. Scott Gustafson will officiate. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow the service and take place at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in the town of Hamburg.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations in Leland’s name be directed to Pine Crest Nursing Home.
