Larry Barton

Larry W. Barton, 66, of Merrill, passed away unexpectedly August 19, 2010 at his home. He was born February 17, 1944 to the late Harry & Viola (Glugla) Barton in Racine , Wisconsin . He married Marilyn H. Gresens in January of 1969 in Wausau .

Larry was a 1963 graduate of Wausau East High School . After high school, he served in the US Army from 1963 until 1966. Larry then attended NTC and earned an Associates degree in electronics. After earning his degree he spent a couple of years working at Allen Bradley in Milwaukee . Larry had a history of owning and running restaurants. He owned and operated the Larry Barton Farmers Insurance Agency in Merrill which he ran until 2005. Larry then worked in the customer service department at Eastbay in Wausau until his death. Larry was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Merrill. He was also a member of the Merrill Evening Lions Club. Larry enjoyed fishing, playing pool and playing cards. He loved to go for walks with his son, Brad, and his dog, Malone.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Barton, Merrill; two sons: Chad Barton, Cadott , WI and Brad Barton, Merrill; two sisters: Karen Abler, Milwaukee and Mary Hurst, Wausau .

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn Barton.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Bell Tower Residence Chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey Martinson will officiate. Friends may call from 9 – 11 AM before the service, also at Bell Tower . The Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
