Joyce A. Peterson, age 92, of Merrill, WI, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Woodland Court Elder Services. She was born on October 19, 1932, in Merrill, WI and was the daughter to the late Walter and Elly (Krajewski) Latzig, Sr. She married George D. Peterson on September 6, 1952. Sadly, he preceded her in death in 1999. Joyce’s first job was working for the Ravn Clinic, which she did as a senior in high school. She later worked for many years at the Lincoln County Bank, and then Merrill Federal Savings and Loan. Joyce also worked for many years in the family tree business in the Fall, making roping and wreathes.
Joyce enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, golf, gardening, macrame, ceramics, reading and getting together to play cards with her monthly card club friends. She also looked forward to get togethers with her fellow Red Hatters. Joyce loved angels, and had collected quite a collection of angel figurines. Throughout the years, she enjoyed weekend excursions with her husband and their friends. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and always bragged that there “wasn’t a bad one in the bunch!”
Joyce is survived by her daughter: Kay (Scott) Schmitz of Hazelhurst, WI, sons: Grant and Max (Toni) of Merrill, WI, daughter-in-law: Sue (Tom) Seslar of Merrill, WI, eight grandchildren: Chris (Marie) Peterson, Erin (Matt) Koehler, Mitch (Melissa) Doering, Morgan Doering, Claire (Brandan) Peterson – Webie, Kate Peterson, Brandon (Tiffany) Peterson and Justin Peterson, nine great grandchildren: Greta, Garik, Will, Evelyn, Leona, Reid, Owen, Jackson and Sawyer, sister-in-law: Betty Latzig and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: George, daughter: Dawn, son: Gary, brothers: Fritz, Warren Sr., and Walter J. Latzig, brothers-in-law: Harold, Glen and Ralph Peterson and sisters-in-law: Millie, Lois, Louise and Mary Lou.
The funeral service for Joyce will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ in Merrill. Rev. Mike Southcombe will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the church. Burial at Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow the service.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services and Woodland Court Elder Services, for their care, compassion and support that was shown to Joyce and her family.
