Goldie Mae Broeren

August 30, 1933 — April 29, 2025

Merrill

Goldie Mae Broeren, age 91, of Merrill, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Bell Tower Residence in Merrill, while under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services. She was born on August 30, 1933, to the late Ralph and Elsa (Hassel) Duranceau, in Merrill. Goldie had met the love of her life, Jack Broeren, and the two were united in marriage on April 7, 1960. Sadly, Jack preceded her in death on January 8, 2020.

Goldie grew up on the family farm in Merrill, the town of Texas. She enjoyed being a homemaker and mother and was an excellent baker, especially known for her pies. Goldie looked forward to working on her sewing projects, crocheting and knitting; she was a very skilled seamstress. She truly was the caregiver of her family, always putting her family first and making sure they were cared for. Goldie enjoyed going to their cottage on Blue Lake in Minocqua, where she was able to relax, unwind and enjoy the nature. She liked going to the gym, where she would participate in water aerobics. Goldie looked forward to a nice relaxing walk, especially through the Council Grounds. You could find her working on her crossword puzzles or enjoying a good book. Goldie was a spirited and feisty lady that also had an incredible amount of patience. She volunteered at the food pantry, worked at voting polls and was a member of the Red Hat Society and Trinity Lutheran Church. Goldie will be sadly missed, but memories of her will remain with all who knew her.

Goldie is survived by her son: Michael (Larana) Broeren of Merrill, daughter: Brenda (Michael) Powell of Summerville, SC, grandchildren: Sarah, Adam (Krysta) Kunkel and Taylor Floyd, great grandchildren: Aiden, Bellamy and Keller, sister: Eloise Schultz, sister-in-law: Ary Duranceau and honorary children: Carol Heffernan, Linda (Dave) Boodle and Sheila (Pete) Frederick. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband: Jack Broeren, grandson: Andrew Kunkel, siblings: Vivian Duranceau, Alfred (Gladys) Duranceau, Daryl (Kathleen) Duranceau, Ellen (Edward) Schultz, Fern (Carl) Clausen, Arlien (Albert) Kunke, Iris (Clinton) Claussen, Lloyd (Carol) Duranceau, Loren Duranceau, Marilyn Kufahl and Jean Duranceau and brother-in-law: Lawrence Schultz.
