Edward T. Hinke, 89, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Pine Crest Nursing Home. He was born on November 5, 1936, in Merrill, son of Thomas and Doris (Woller) Hinke. Ed will be remembered for his love of his family, his dedication to his work, and his passion for the outdoors.
On July 13, 1957, Ed married Marjorie ‘Marge’ Neubauer, in Merrill. Ed devoted nearly 45 years to his career at Merrill Manufacturing where he was a respected supervisor and took great pride in his work.
He cherished moments spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed had a deep appreciation for nature, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting, and trapping, and had once owned a sports shop where he sold his handmade arrows. He was an avid fan of Wisconsin sports, cheering for the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers. Additionally, Ed and Marge dedicated time to being foster grandparents at Lincoln Hills School, positively impacting the lives of many youth over the years.
Survivors include his wife, Marge Hinke of Merrill; daughters, Deb (Bill) Schmidt of Merrill and Lynn (Gene) Essert of Merrill; son, Scott (Cindy) Hinke of Merrill; 7 grandchildren, Andrew (Elizabeth) Schmidt, Amanda (Travis) Prentice, Michael (James) Resch-Badeau, Kristy (Cory) Przybylski, Katie (Brad) McNutt, Timothy (Sara) Hinke, and Jeremy Hinke; and 16 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris Hinke; son, Randall Hinke; grandson, Daniel Schmidt; and sister, Esther Barna.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill, WI. Pastor Brandon Wade will officiate. Burial will take place in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
