Merrill

Dale C. ‘Nick’ ‘Boots’ ‘Bones’ Meyers, age 93, of Merrill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, while at The Bay at Eastview Medical and Rehab center in Antigo, WI. He was born on May 16, 1932 to Carl and June (Williams) Meyers in Beaver Dam, WI. Dale graduated from high school in Beaver Dam, and went on to enlist in the United States Navy. After serving his time in the Navy, he was honorably discharged. Dale met Carolyn Finup, and the two were united in marriage on March 18, 1955 in Beaver Dam, WI. They raised 4 children together, and enjoyed a marriage of over 68 years, until the passing of Carolyn.

Dale worked with the adult and juvenile prison system for most of his life, and retired as a supervisor in the security department at Lincoln Hills. He was an extremely hard worker and had a strong work ethic, always providing what was needed for his family. Dale was a member of the Masonic Society, a group within Freemasonry focused on fostering intellectual, spiritual, and social growth within a fraternity. He was also a sports enthusiast, especially basketball. When he wasn’t working, Dale enjoyed being outside, whether it was hunting or fishing, or just relaxing. Dale had a fun sense of humor, was self-confident and was a loyal friend. He is remembered as the life of the party and was enjoyable to be around. Dale will be missed dearly, but the memories and stories will live on!

His children fondly referred to him as a larger-than-life character who loved them and loved life. He enjoyed all types of music, dancing, and working with wood. He was a former star athlete at Beaver Dam High School class of 1951, earning trophies in basketball, football, and track. Following high school, he became a member of the Great Lakes Basketball team while serving in the Navy. He went on to play semi-professionally for the Washington Generals, and even played against the Harlem Globetrotters and hosted a few of them in his home after the game. He was an avid bowler who loved fishing, hunting, and golf. He is the last male of his family line leaving us his legacy and “a hard act to follow!”

Dale is survived by his children: Kimberley ‘Kym’ (Phillip) Walker of Antigo, WI and June Bebel (Scott Mueller) of Beaver Dam, WI, grandchildren: Cortney, Casey, Savannah, Serena, Taylor and Carley, great grandchildren: Adrianna, Braxton, Anthony, Addison, Parker and Veda, sister: Patti Jaehnke, nieces and nephews: Tara (Tom) Portman, Debbie, Laine, Marybeth, Nick, and Randy, and niece-in-law: JoAnn Jaehnke. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Carolyn, children: Toni Marie Meyers and Elliott Robert Meyers and nephew: Greg Jaehnke and his father Clifford.

A Celebration of Life for Dale will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to the staff at The Bay at Eastview Medical and Rehab center for their care and support they had shown to Dale and his family during his time there.
