Betty M. Severt, 91, formerly of Merrill, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Care Partners Assisted Living under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Betty was born May 31, 1935, in Merrill, daughter of the late Peter and Dorothy (Kurth) Horgen. Betty grew up in the Newwood area. She graduated from Merrill High School. On December 24, 1954, Betty married Gordon ‘Chub’ Severt. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1988. Betty helped her husband run their restaurant ‘Kozy Korner’ in the 70’s. She and Chub also owned and operated Merrill Evergreen for twenty years. They provided wholesale flowers to local florists, designed wedding and funeral pieces, and sold roping and wreaths during the Christmas season.

Betty worked for 12 years at Merrill Manufacturing and another 17 years at Wire Products, both in Merrill. In retirement, Betty volunteered at Pine Crest Nursing Home for five years. She also enjoyed traveling and sightseeing in the Southern and Western states, playing keyboard, doing word search puzzles, and watching NFL football, especially the Packers. She liked watching her favorite movie, The Blind Side, and listening to polka music. She loved going to watch her grandsons’ baseball games and granddaughters’ band concerts and dance shows. In her spare time, she would take coffee breaks or a round of golf with her friend Halena and play card games with her friend Keith. Betty also enjoyed making and decorating wreaths and making decorative sprays for the cemetery. Betty loved cooking for her family and was open to making any meal requested by them.

Survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Ted) Benolken, of Otsego, MN, and Cindy (Todd Rolaff) Vachavake, of Schofield; four sons, Greg (Kaye) Severt, of Florida, James Severt, of Merrill, Jeff (Jackie) Severt, of Boise, ID, and Todd Severt, of Merrill; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Severt, of Colorado Springs, CO; fourteen grandchildren; five step grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, Betty is preceded in death by one son; one grandson; and one granddaughter.

The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice staff for all the care and support they offered Betty and her family. They would also like to thank Kendra, Kaitlin and the rest of the staff at Care Partners for the wonderful care they provided Betty over the years.

Per Betty’s request, there will be no services. Inurnment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
