Bernice C. Schulz

Bernice C. Schulz, 78, of Merrill, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025, at her home.

Bernice was born August 19, 1946, in Merrill, daughter of Lawrence and Hertha (Hinz) Schult. Her father really wanted a son, so he oftentimes called Bernice, ‘Stanley’. 

Bernice graduated from Wausau High School. She was introduced to Ralph Schulz through his sister, Elaine. Bernice and Ralph were married on June 19, 1965, in the Town of Scott, Lincoln County. Bernice worked in housekeeping at Pine Crest Nursing Home in Merrill for over thirty years. Prior to that, she worked at Fromm Farms, Tiny Tot, Seeger’s Dairy, and drove bus. 

Bernice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. She enjoyed fishing and camping, canning, tending to her flower gardens, and feeding and watching the birds. She really enjoyed animals of all kind. Bernice loved her grandchildren and spending time with them.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Schulz of Merrill; children, Christine Brown and Gary (Vicki) Schulz both of Merrill; grandchildren, Haley (Daleth) Jacobsen and Zachary T. Brown both of Merrill; and her in-laws, Elaine Hoff, Dorothy Hagedorn and Ruth Buck all of Merrill, Barbara Turner of Florida, and Jerome Schulz of New London. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Hertha Schult; an infant son; sister, Dorothea (Lawrence) Baneck; and brothers-in-law, Donald Hoff, Milton Hagedorn, Lloyd Buck, and Arthur Turner.

The funeral service for Bernice will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. Rev. David Szeto will officiate. Burial will take place in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott. The visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 903 E. Third St., Merrill, and after 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
