Alice M. Walters

Alice M. Walters was called to the Lord on April 29, 2025 at the age of 90, at Our House Senior Living while under the care of Heartland Hospice. She was in the presence of family when she passed to the Lord.

Alice was born in 1934 in Eagle River WI, the 4th daughter to John and Lucey Greek. She grew up as a farm kid during the Great Depression and learned to be a hard worker and appreciate the good things when they came. After graduating High School, she worked at Rhinelander Hospital as a nurse’s aide where she met and then married James Walters, her husband of 40 years.

During her entire life, Alice has given of herself to serve her family and community. Over the years, she volunteered to Eagle River 4-H Fair program, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in Eagle River and Rhinelander, Merrill FFA and Merrill Fair and 4-H program. Later in life, Alice helped with Merrill Meals on Wheels and as a driver for Merrill ADRC for many years.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents John and Lucey Greek; sisters, Clara, Nellie, Catherine, and Elizabeth; son, William; and husband, James.

Alice is survived by sons, John (Lorinda) Walters and Henry (Maria) Walters; daughter, Bonnie Walters (Tim Buttles); grandchildren, Wesley (Erin) Walters, Meghan Walters, Robert (Brittany) Walters, James Buttles, and Mae Buttles; and great grandchildren, Julia, Rhys, and Brooke Walters.

The funeral service for Alice will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill. Rev. Michael Zahn will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Forest Home Cemetery in Rhinelander. The visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday, May 12, 2025 and after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 13, 2025 all at Taylor-Stine-Waid Funeral & Cremation – 301 Eagle Dr., Merrill.
